A PLACE TO WATCH...
"Maineland" profiles entrepreneur Amber Lambke and her efforts to revitalize the post-industrial small town of Skowhegan, Maine with the Somerset Grist Mill, an old-fashioned grain and oat mill. Since opening in 2014, the mill has facilitated the resurgence of wheat farming, baking, and other small businesses in the surrounding area.
With two locally owned craft breweries; the Somerset Grist Mill, which produces grains for Maine craft brewers; and the recently established Skowhegan Craft Brew Festival, an event scheduled for Labor Day Weekend each year, the central Maine town of Skowhegan has a burgeoning craft brew culture.
Run of River is a proposed whitewater recreation area in and around the Kennebec River Gorge in downtown Skowhegan, Maine.
